Ultrasound - I am a happy momma!

I can't even tell you how happy I am with the ultrasound today! We got to see Quinney practicing breathing and swallowing!! These are 2 major functions that we didn't know if she was able to do or not! My baby girl is a fighter!!!!
She is currently 6 pounds 11 ounces and right around the 50th percentile. Considering that many T13 babies are small this is another major win for us! We did see that her kidneys are slightly enlarged but at least one of them is working because her bladder was filling up.
The omphalocele seemed to be slightly larger than our last growth ultrasound and right around 8cms. There is still just bowel but we could see some fluid in there as well.
Now the reason that I am so huge is because normal fluid levels is around 12cms and I am at 26. Nice! Quinney has an Olympic size pool in there =)
I am currently dilated 1 to 2 cms and at my next appt (Wednesday) we will discuss if we want to induce at 39 weeks or let her come in her own time. I have thoughts both ways so I am not sure what I want to do!

There are several trisomy 13/18 moms in Ohio. Also, some very good doctors. Here is the blog of one trisomy mom from Ohio.

It sounds like Quinn is growing very well!! Have you contacted the local SOFT chapter?
Also, there are many parents on Facebook: Trisomy 18 mommies and The trisomy 13/18 journey is another. There is little difference between trisomy 13 and 18 in terms of the common challenges.

Unless your doctors have experience with trisomy 13 survivors (most don't) many are not well informed and generally pessimistic. Recently, on one of the FB groups, a trisomy mom who is also an OB advised that it is critical to have doctors who are on board with the plan of care and to have a lawyer just in case.

It never hurts to get a second opinion regarding any critical decisions.

All the very best to you and Quinn. It is not an easy journey, but it is one you will never regret. Quinn is a gorgeous little baby.

You are 37 weeks now right? If so, then congratulations! You are considered full term! :) It shows that Quinn is a fighter.

If the kidneys are enlarged she probably has hydronephrosis (It's a backup of urine in the kidneys which make them swell.) By itself it is not causing damage... it just makes the baby at more risk of developing a UTI infection. It is common in newborns and can often clear up on its own. Once you meet with the urologist they will probably give her mild antibiotics for protection until they see if it clears up on its own.

Just know, that there are many of us out here that are praying for you and for your little Quinn. Everyone wants you both to be healthy and happy.

God bless,
Joe (Father of Troy)
